Fremont Solstice Parade
Yesterday, the people of Fremont were joined by the people of Seattle to celebrate the Solstice (a week early). The nineteenth annual parade ran from downtown Fremont to Gas Works Park. Some parade veterans went down to the route early and staked us out a spot to watch the spectacle. The parade began with the traditional naked bike ride and developed into a colorful display of painted skin, dancing, cultural displays, political statements, environmental messages, and vaudeville-esque acts. The participants were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd lining the streets several rows deep. We sat on the curb, watched, cheered, and heckled. The spell was only broken twice. Once by a pack of solemn faced policemen on bikes. And once by a traditional style marching band, as normal as they come, which stuck out like a man in a bear suit at a tea party.
Some photos. Caution, nu-dity awaits here.
